This was the first hit record I ever had. Del Reeves was my partner for a while and we put many hits together, beginning with this one in 1967. Del is not only a great Country Artist, but probably the greatest Country entertainer I have ever seen on stage. He is the only artist that I know who can entertain you an hour without ever singing a note. The night Bob Montgomery produced this record in RCA B Studio we went to his office and listened to it until the wee hours of the morning. It just never got old. It stayed in the National charts for over 5 months and still sounds great today ...
- Jerry
My whole life savings, a two dollar bill
That's why I'm here tonight, I've got time to kill
And I can tell my story, about twenty times
With two dollars in the jukebox
One Dime at a time
Chorus:
Two dollars in a jukebox, A Dime at a time
Play the same old song
About a love gone wrong till closin' time
Two dollars oughta do me, If you'll buy the wine
And I'll put it in the jukebox, One Dime at a time
Pardon me mister, Mind if I sit down?
Misery likes company, and I believe that I've found
Somebody just as lonely, Don't believe I'm wrong
If you had a place to go to, you'd have done been gone
Repeat Chorus:
Tag: And I'll put it in the jukebox, One Dime at a time ...
